Creating a Dataview webpart to view data from another list
(too old to reply)

Hi,

I have been trying Web Part connections but I couldn't get
it to retrieve data from another list on another site.

Basically I have different sites for different groups of
users with different access rights. All the sites will
have a list with the same columns.

I need to create a central site in which managers can
access and view a compilation of all the lists i created
in other sites.

Is there someway I can use Web Part Connections to get
data from various lists and summarise into 1 list ?

Regards,
Jiehong

I gather that the reason you can not create the data view is that you
could not see the target list when you tried to set the connection.
What you have to do to get to lists outside your current site is click
the Manage catalog link at the bottom of the data source catalog and
add the list you need to reach to the catalog.

Hi,

I'm able to add a Data View of a list from another site.

But what I'm trying to do is, creating a data view pulling
the data from various list and present them together in a list.

simply write a cusom web part which ill loop thru all sites in question and
individual lists within those sites and get the content as you want.. It
won't be ('that')
tedious :-)

LMK if u need any more details..

Thanks
