RE: Migrating SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007 via DB restore and stsadm
addcontentdb.. Really Possible???

I found this guide that

http://blogs.officezealot.com/mauro/archive/2008/01/09/20719.aspx

But I'm wondering how this is possilbe.

I'm not clear on steps 5 - 8

How do I restore the content database to the new server if the new
server already has MOSS Database for Content? Will the two DBs
coexsist?

Why am I creating a new WSS 3.0 Web Application? What if one already
exsist and my goal is copy an v2 site to a v3 subsite?

Which Content DB am I deleting the new or the old? And why do th is
before I do the add AddContentdb? Also, won't there be issues with the
v2 Database and Table format not matching v2 Table layouts?

I don't understand step 8.2

This guide looked promising.. but it's very sketchy. Know of any
proven guides of migrating this same way with more details. maybe
screenshots?

Thanks for any help or information.

The process is basically correct, he does miss one or two minor steps
such as setting the old DB to read-only before prescanning it.

There are far better guides out there, the procedure is quite well
documented.

Can I suggest you start here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263299.aspx
